Apple iTunes might face legal hassles in Norway

Apple could face potential legal problems in the European country Norway if they continue to keep their iTunes service locked to their iPod range of digital music players.

The Norway government has given the company until March 1 to confirm whether they are ready to open up iTunes to rival players available in the market.

Torgier Waterhouse, senior advisor to the Norwegian Consumer Council confirmed this in a statement. He said that if Apple fails to show an inclination to change its DRM policy by then, this dispute could be taken to the Marketing Council.

He said: “It’s now clear that iTunes must remove its illegal lock-in technology or face legal action.”

The government ombudsman has said that the Apple iTunes DRM model violates Norwegian law. Apple also has till October this year to show that they have implemented the required changes in their DRM model.
