Intel showcases their Penryn microprocessors
Microprocessor industry giant Intel has showcased their 45-nanometer chips from the upcoming Penryn family of chips.
Intel said that these new processors are almost ready for primetime and should be launched in the market in the coming months.
These processors would be developed for all the three popular platforms: desktop, server and notebook.
Intel CEO Paul Otellini said in a statement that systems powered by these processors should be out in the market before the end of the current year.
Stephen Smith, vice president and director of desktop platform operations added: “the biggest change to our instruction set in about five years.”
The company has already been shipping processors based on their 65-nanometer manufacturing technology since late 2005. Rivals AMD are due to launch their own 45-nanometer chips sometime next year.
