MySpace to donate a database of sex offenders to NCMEC

Internet’s most popular social networking service MySpace.com has said that they would be donating a database on U.S. sex offenders to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

This center tracks missing children. However, the legal authorities have warned that the company has still done little on preventing their underage users from being harassed by sex offenders on the service.

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal spoke about the lack of steps taken by the company: “Protecting children is too important for MySpace to continue taking feel-good baby steps. We will consider every available option, including possible legal action, if the site continues to resist age verification.”

MySpace is working with Sentinel to create this database of sex offenders in the country who are registered with the web service. The company uses the database to identify, block or delete the accounts of known sex predators on its service.
