NeuStar to manage .tel Top-Level Domain
Telnic has chosen NeuStar to operate the .tel top-level domain. Telnic is the company responsible for controlling the telephony-oriented domains.
Virginia-based NeuStar said in a statement that users can use a .tel domain name for initiating communication over telephony, VoIP, instant messaging, e-mail, SMS, and other Web communications.
Telnic had previously said that the .tel domain name would be offered through various registrars and resellers. They had originally applied for this domain extension in October 2000.
ICANN awarded them the control last year. Mark Foster, NeuStar CTO spoke on this new development: “We believe that .tel will help to enable new services like VoIP for individuals and businesses that need to publish and control, in real time, how they can be reached.”
