Sony BMG Music Entertainment to reimburse consumers up to $150 for damage from DRM infested Audio CDs
U.S. regulators have said in a statement that media company Sony BMG Music Entertainment has agreed to reimburse consumers up to $150 for damage to their computers from CDs which came loaded with faulty DRM technology.
The settlement with the company requires them to allow consumers to exchange through the end of June the affected CDs purchased before Dec. 31, 2006. The customers would also be able to reimburse up to USD 150 for the repairs for the damage caused by these CDs on their computers.
Sony BMG is also now required to clearly disclose limitations on consumers’ use of music CDs
They have also been instructed to provide an uninstall tool and patches for a period of two years for the customers who purchased the problematic CDs.
This settlement is however open to public comment for 30 days. FTC would then decide if this settlement is final.
