Verizon Wireless rolls out CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A)
US based mobile service provider Verizon Wireless has launched a high-speed data wireless network in metropolitan Boston, metropolitan Richmond and Hampton Roads, Va., metropolitan Chicago, Utah cities including Salt Lake City, and areas of Florida.
This network is based on the CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) technology.
This new service would be available to some customers of Verizon’s BroadbandAccess. Market analyst Joe Nordgaard spoke about this new technology: “EV-DO Rev. A represents an important step in wireless network evolution because the improved up and down link speeds will allow for many new services like VoIP and better push-to-talk service.”
Verizon itself claims that this network would give customers the ability to upload files five to six times faster than existing service. The technology is powered by Qualcomm.
