Hyundai Getz variant with a 1.1 liter or a 1.2 liter engine
Hyundai has failed to impress the Indian customer with their Getz car as Maruti has successfully captured the market in this segment with their Swift car.
The company is now planning to launch a new variant of the car with a smaller engine to qualify for excise benefits on small cars.
H S Lheem, MD& CEO, HMIL spoke on these plans: “We are planning to introduce a facelift version of the Getz sometime in the third quarter of this year. The new car will have a 1.1 liter or a 1.2 liter engine, depending on market response, and the model will conform to the government’s small car criteria.”
The existing model of Getz features a 1341 cc engine. The government rulings require a car with an engine smaller than 1200 cc to qualify for concessional excise of 16 per cent.
The Getz model featuring a smaller engine could allow for a price cut of Rs 30,000 to 40,000. The company is also likely to launch a 1.1 liter hatchback code named Pa sometime later this year.
