China saw sales of 120 million mobile phones in 2006

China is one of the biggest mobile markets in the world. The country saw sales of as many as 120 million mobile phones in 2006.

This is an increase of 40 percent year on year compared to sales in 2005.

These figures were reported by Xinhua which quoted the deputy chief of the China Mobile Communications Association Xie Linzhen.

They now expect the sales to touch 150 million units this year. The country also saw production of 450 million mobile phones out of which around 350 million were exported.

Nokia and Motorola are two dominating mobile phone makers in the country. The local companies accounted for just around 50 million units on domestic and overseas markets.

Xie said: “Chinese phone users on average buy new mobile phones every 21 months.”
