Nokia Phones getting Skulled

Nokia Mobile Phone Model 7610 is reportedly being affected by malicious wallpaper. It comes in the form of a software download from mobile goodies website and can result in all phone options on the GUI swapped by images of skull.

This malicious code also reportedly locks many of the features of this particular phone model, which render it just good enough to make and receive calls. The code nicknamed ‘Skulls’ pretends as software that creates new background images and themes for the main screen of the 7610 phone.

It has been removed by the sites, which inadvertently caused the spread of this application, which appears as a file named 7610.extended.theme.manager.zip

Symbian, the makers of the Operating System of the mobile handset told media that the spread of the Skulls program was likely to be limited, as the program cannot travel from one phone to another by itself. They also released instructions to fix the phone for users affected by this problem.

Other mobile handsets using Symbian OS manufactured by Sony Ericsson, Motorola, BenQ, Arima and Fujitsu are not affected as per the reports. Just another reason why we would soon be seeing antivirus for mobile handsets.
