Apple and Beatles settle disputes related to trademark

iPod maker Apple Inc. has now ended a legal dispute with the Beatles over rights to use the Apple name and logos.

This could potentially improve Apple’s position in the market where they sell both digital music and digital music and video players in the market.

This settlement might also result in a situation where Beatles music is made available through Apple iTunes. This deal could be exclusive and would benefit both the companies a lot.

This new agreement would mean that Apple Inc now owns all trademarks related to “Apple” and will license some rights back to the Beatles’ Apple Corps Ltd. for its continued use. The financial details of this agreement were not released to the media.

Rob Enderle of Enderle Group in San Jose, California said that this deal could be very powerful for Apple, which needs to constantly lead in this market.

Apple needed to settle lawsuits related to their music related operations considering revenue from iTunes and the iPod accounted for more than half of Apple’s sales in the quarter ended Dec. 30.
