AMD launches new Opteron processors
Advanced Micro Devices has launched a series of new Opteron processors. The company added three dual-core additions to its Opteron processor lineup.
These new processors consume less power than standard versions of the chip. AMD also launched some more dual-core Opteron chips to the high end of the line.
AMD’s new Opteron 1218 HE, 2218 HE, and 8218 HE are 2.6GHz chips. These are designed to require a maximum 68 watts of power.
The other new processors are 2220 and 8220. These are in 2.8GHz speed range and are designed to power high-end servers and workstations.
AMD said that all of these new processors are manufactured using the 90-nanometer production process.
