Virgin Mary Cheese Sandwich

I am surprised this is still making news after so many days. However, if someone pays 28000 dollars for a grilled sandwich… it is something. The sandwich bears the image of the Virgin Mary and has one bite taken out of it. Moreover, it is free from mould even after so many years.

Diana Duyser, a jewellery designer by profession made the sandwich in 1994 and after taking that bite found the sandwich staring back at her. She claims that the sandwich brought her luck over the years. And after more than 1.7 million hits to her page on eBay, it was sold for USD28000.

Antigua-based casino GoldenPalace.com plans to take the sandwich on a world tour spreading the word and let people see the iconic symbol of Virgin Mary. The sandwich made news when eBay removed the entry from their listings after complaints. However, later they turned it back on. GoldenPalace.com also is making money by selling tee-shirts and and sweatshirts based on the now famous sandwich.

The $28000 bid was determined to be not legitimate. The highest legitimate bid was $71.

this truly shows the power of the internet. i don’t think that sandwich would have gotten $28,000 at a Sotheby’s auction…

Does anyone know what kind of cheese was used?

How do you know it is not Phyllis Diller’s image? Only because this poor woman who has been baby sitting this snack for 10 years said it was the virgin Mary. How does she know what the virgin looked like? A rose by any other name is still a rose and a cheese sandwich by the name of Mary is still just a cheese sandwich. Delta Airlines needs to hire her as a sales person.

….if the price stated is true….then puton your tails and tophat…and pour out the bubbly Totts. This country is finished morally…culturally….financially….we are bankrupt. Let the celebrations begin.
