Warner Music Group to make available their music on Last.fm
Warner Music Group has said that they have signed on a deal with Last.fm. The company is now making available its entire catalog on the fast-growing social networking music service.
Last.fm has more than 15 million active users and the company has been praised for their innovative system which recommends new music based on the listening habits of the user.
The service also links the user to other fans having the same music taste.
Last.fm’s deal with Warner is their first such deal with a major music label around the world. Company co-founder Martin Stiksel added that they are already in talks with the other three major labels and content holders.
Stephen Bryan, who looks at business development for Warner Music Group spoke about this deal with Last.fm: “This will help us harness that power for consumers.”
Stiksel added: “It is very difficult to keep up to date with all the new music that is coming out. Being confronted with too much choice can actually be daunting and you go back to listening to the same old stuff. What we wanted to do was make music discovery very simple. This is the first major content deal we have done and this is the official stamp of approval.”
Stefan Glaenzer, chairman added: “The only thing you have to do is listen. The music industry can only ever promote the last four or five things. This helps them find audiences for their very new music.”
