Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications to use Symbian in a UIQ interface
Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications has said that they would soon make an announcement related to their strategies for UIQ interface that runs on the Symbian mobile phone operating system.
UIQ is basically a graphical user interface layer that provides additional components to the core Symbian OS.
This was announced by Sony Ericsson President Miles Flint at the ongoing 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona.
The company had completed the acquisition of UIQ Technology just recently. UIQ develops and manages the platform used by the handset maker for its smart phones.
UIQ is now likely to operate as an independent subsidiary of the company. Sony Ericsson said that they would continue to be licensed on equal terms to all its licensees.
