Cingular division to launch mobile TV using Qualcomm’s MediaFLO technology
America’s leading mobile service provider AT&T’s Cingular division has announced that they are going to provide mobile TV using Qualcomm’s MediaFLO technology.
They are planning to launch this service later this year.
With this launch, Cingular would be providing multiple channels of live TV with the technology. It would use its own dedicated network.
Incidentally, they are not alone, rivals Verizon Wireless has also committed to using MediaFLO to launch their own version of mobile television.
This is good news for Qualcomm as they face challenge from world’s leading mobile phone maker Nokia which is promoting the GSM based DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld) technology.
