Microsoft PlayReady: Microsoft develops digital rights management platform for mobiles
Software giant Microsoft has showcased their developed DRM technology for the mobile platform. The company says that this would help content developers to protect a wide range of mobile content.
The company calls this technology Microsoft PlayReady and they are showcasing it at the ongoing 3GSM conference in Barcelona.
Microsoft said that it is capable of protecting standard audio and video files, ringtones, pictures, games, wallpaper and other content which can be sold to the end customer.
They plan to make available this technology to mobile service providers who want to sell value added services to their customers to enhance revenues.
This platform supports a variety of models used by operators to sell content. It works with models like subscription, rental and pay-per-view. It supports formats including Windows Media Audio, AAC, Windows Media Video and H.264 media formats.
The Microsoft PlayReady technology is also backward compatible with Windows Media DRM 10.
