Nokia and Intel no longer developing HSDPA module for notebook computers

Mobile phone maker Nokia and microprocessor industry giant Intel have announced that they have now scrapped a joint plan to develop an HSDPA module for notebook computers.

Nokia spokeswoman Eija-Riitta Huovinen said in a statement: “We have, together with Intel, canceled the HSDPA module cooperation in the form we formerly announced.”

The company had earlier announced that they were working with Intel on a HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) module. This module was being developed with the aim of helping mobile product users to find the best wireless connections.

Huovinen added in the statement: “We are still looking at the HSDPA module case from a technological point of view, but no decisions have been made on commercializing it. We both saw that there was not an adequate business case.”

The two companies would however continue to work together on other fields.
