EarthLink to deploy 600-square-mile Wi-Fi municipal network in Houston
The City of Houston has said that they have picked EarthLink to deploy its ambitious 600-square-mile Wi-Fi municipal network.
This was confirmed by the Mayor Bill White. This network would be one of the largest of its kind in the country.
This network would serve urban and suburban sections of Metropolitan Houston. The city overall has a population of over 2 million people.
Donald Berryman, executive vice president of EarthLink Municipal Networks Unit added in a statement: “Our Wi-Fi networks give consumers an affordable and portable broadband Internet connection anytime, or any place, throughout the city.”
White said that there were five firms who had submitted their proposals to build the Wi-Fi mesh network.
This network would be made available to residents and visitors.
