China could see 14 billion holiday SMSs during their Lunar New Year celebration
China’s Xinhua news agency has reported that the telecom companies in the region are expected to see as many as 14 billion Lunar New Year text messages being sent during this festive season.
China Mobile and China Unicom Ltd. are the two biggest mobile firms in the region and they have both confirmed that they have upgraded their network to handle this extra load.
The last year saw as many as 12.6 billion short messages being delivered in just 8 days. This came to around 30+ messages for every mobile user in the country at that time.
The country now has more than 460 million mobile subscribers. The last year itself saw transmission of as many as 430 billion short messages in the country.
