EM-One: Sharp develops a widescreen Windows Mobile-based PDA

Consumer electronics maker Sharp has announced that they have developed a widescreen Windows Mobile-based PDA.

This device has been developed for a new Japanese cellular carrier which would launch their services next month in the country.

The company said that EM-One would be compatible with EMobile Co.’s high-speed 3G (third-generation) data service.

This service would provide download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. The device also features 802.11b/g Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, and a tuner for Japan’s mobile digital television broadcasts.

It runs on the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and features a 4.1-inch widescreen with WVGA (800 pixels by 480 pixels) resolution. It would come preloaded with Internet Explorer Mobile, Opera Mobile, versions of World, Excel and PowerPoint, Windows Media Player 10 Mobile, a PDF viewer, image and video player software, a bar code reader and dictionary software.

Sharp said that this device would sell for between ¥39,800 and ¥95,000 ($331 and $795), respectively, depending on the service plan. They would not sell this device through other carriers and other regions.
