Intel promotes Linux in India & China

Intel has noticed the potential of open source software in the developing countries like India and even China. Not only government agencies, even companies and individual users are endorsing Linux as a desktop platform.

And to tap this market, they have released a Quick Start Kit for Linux in Asia. This will help the system builders to offer better solutions based on Linux powered machines. Intel already releases similar kits for Intel platform. But supporting Linux is good news for the customers wanting to expand their expertise to OS Platforms.

Intel Channel Program members get this kit for free which supports Novell’s Desktop 9, Red Hat’s Desktop, and Red Flag’s Desktop 4.1. More support would come in the near future. The kit has approved support for Intel desktop motherboards like D845, D865, and D915 families of motherboards.

Intel plans to expand this kit’s distribution to other markets in the future. “What we’re trying to do is provide a resource for the system integrator to be able to offer a validated solution to their customer with a minimal amount of work,” Intel’s spokesman said. “They shouldn’t have to worry about finding all of the drivers on their own.”
