Qualcomm believes deal with AT&T could help with Nokia talks
US based tech company Qualcomm has had issues with mobile phone maker Nokia in the past on royalty issues on usage of CDMA technology.
Qualcomm Chief Executive Paul Jacobs has now said in a statement that their talks with Nokia could be helped by the recently announced AT&T’s decision to use Qualcomm’s mobile television technology.
AT&T’s Cingular Wireless use GSM technology and are a customer of Nokia mobile phones. They are now planning to add Qualcomm’s MediaFLO mobile TV chips to its phones.
Jacobs said that this deal could help them work again with Nokia in the near future. He said: “The MediaFLO deal with Cingular is a new fact. Maybe there’s a way to find some new common ground there.”
Jacobs added about talks with Nokia: “I’m still hopeful we’ll find some solutions that don’t require a judge coming down and imposing something on us, but as I said the teams are still locked.”
