Philips enter PC Market
Philips is one of the giants of the electronic appliances market in the world. And they have been out of the personal computing market since a decade now. The company on Thursday announced that they are entering back in the industry where they suffered big losses last time they were in.
The launch has been a relatively small one with just six models. Philips is launching these in collaboration with British retailer Dixons. The products will only be available in a limited number of shops in Britain, Ireland, Spain, Italy and Nordic countries.
Philips is promoting their Internet-connected products branded under Streamium through these channels. Philips-Freeline as these PCs are called would come preconfigured to use the Philips Streamium products. Originally made for bundling with broadband packages from telecom companies, these devices would allow consumers to stream their music over wireless networks.
Philips is already a force to reckon with in consumer electronics and is the world’s biggest lighting products manufacturer. And it also is a big supplier of computer products to many computer makers like Dell and HP. This would just be another extension of their home products for the consumers.
