Google claims click fraud on advertising services minimal
Search engine giant Google has said that the advertisers on their pay-per-click Web advertising system face minimal fraud with fake clicks.
The company disclosed data that they are continuously under attack by people indulging in such practices, but virtually all such tricks are automatically detected.
Google said in its report that its computers automatically reject up to 10 percent of potential advertising billings. Company’s project managers added that every percentage point of invalid clicks the company forgoes costs Google $100 million in lost revenue at current levels of revenues.
Shuman Ghosemajumder added that as many as 10% of pay-per-click activity is generally invalid. This includes accidental clicks and click fraud attempts.
Advertising industry veteran Kevin Lee added in a statement on Google: “The biggest challenge Google faces is really a restoration of trust. Google was a little lax early on (about the problem). They admitted that by choosing to settle a lawsuit, instead of fighting it.”
Google runs two services related to advertising. Adsense for publishers and Adwords for advertisers.
