Google Book Search being tested in China
Search engine giant Google continues to expand their offerings in the Chinese market as they are now testing a book search service in China.
This service would let the web users search and read the full text of books. The trial site was launched earlier this month.
The company said in a blog post that the service already has in its database content from 1 million books from around the world.
However, few Chinese books are available for searching in this index. Google added: “In China, this mission has just started; we still have a long way to go.”
The service provides links to third party bookstores along with book content where the web user can purchase a hard copy of the book. Google said that in future they might be able to tell which particular store has the book in stock.
Interestingly, this launch comes at a time when Microsoft has criticized Google for misusing the Fair Use privileges for monetary gains.
