Toyota speeds up work on their compact car for India
Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation is the world’s second largest car maker and they have stepped up work on their compact car plans in India.
The company has started sending requests for quotations (RFQs) from Indian suppliers. They are likely to start manufacturing at their upcoming new plant in India.
Toyota is planning to launch the car in the retailing market by 2009. They are not alone, domestic rivals Honda are also planning to launch their small car in India by 2010.
Fiat has plans to launch their Grande Punto and updated Palio in India by then. The market already has existing models like Maruti Swift, Zen Estilo, Wagon R, GM Aveo-UVA, Tata Indica and the Hyundai Getz.
