Turkish court bans access to YouTube.com
After Brazil, YouTube is facing legal hassles in Turkey. A Turkish court has said in an order that the access to the Google owned video sharing site should be banned because it hosts videos allegedly insulting the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
Paul Doany, head of Turk Telekom has confirmed that they have already enforced the ban. The company is the largest telecommunications provider in the country.
Doany added in a statement on this new development: “We are not in the position of saying that what YouTube did was an insult, that it was right or wrong. A court decision was proposed to us, and we are doing what that court decision says.”
He added that the ban would be removed if the court’s decision were rescinded. It is not clear whether the other internet service providers in the country would implement this ban.
