AT&T and Verizon to enable DVR programming using mobile devices
US based mobile service providers AT&T and Verizon both have plans to launch a new service that would enable their subscribers to use their mobile phones to remotely record television shows.
This would be the latest of their value added services to enhance consumer experience. The aim is to lure in more customers by offering these additional services.
AT&T said in a statement that their customers can already use their cell phones to record TV shows on home TVs via Homezone. Homezone is a service provided by AT&T in partnership with satellite TV provider EchoStar Communications.
Verizon Wireless would launch this service soon and would let the customers program TiVo Inc. digital video recorders remotely.
Sprint Nextel is another mobile service provider in the United States working on similar plans to offer this service in the future. They aim to launch this service by the end of the year in partnership with cable providers such as Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Cable Inc.
