Wikia Inc. aims to take 5 percent of the web search market
Google is the current market leader in the search engine industry. Yahoo! and MSN are distant rivals. Now, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has said that their under development Wikia Inc. project is going to become a new player in this segment.
They are planning to take as much as 5 percent of this Internet search market. Wales said: “The idea that Google has some edge because they’ve got super-duper rocket scientists may be a little antiquated now.”
He further said that collaborative affair on Wikia would make search technology less susceptible to spam which is increasingly becoming a problem for the popular search engine services.
Wales also revealed that they have managed to get a $4 million investment from “angel investors” as well as a “very large investment” from Amazon Inc.
