Amazon.com launches Amazon Unbox on TiVo
Online retailing giant Amazon.com has announced their latest service named Amazon Unbox on TiVo. Subscribers to this service would enable them to receive videos purchased online on Amazon Unbox store on their TiVo set-top box.
This further extends the capabilities of the Amazon’s Unbox download service. As many as 1.5 million TiVo Inc. subscribers could avail of this facility as their boxes are connected to high speed internet connections.
The two companies are currently providing an introductory offer in which TiVo is offering $15 in free movie and TV show downloads to those who sign up.
TiVo and Amazon are sharing the expenses for marketing this new service launch. Tara Maitra, Vice President of Content Services at TiVo spoke on this new development: “The rate at which we went from zero to 600,000 has happened very quickly. Something like 60 percent of new boxes are connecting, so certainly the level of interest for having the TiVo on a home network is growing.”
