Cyber-shot DSC-G1: Sony’s first Wi-Fi capable digital camera

Consumer electronics giant Sony has launched their first Wi-Fi capable digital camera product Cyber-shot DSC-G1. With this the company now has a challenger to similar products offered by rivals including Kodak, Nikon, and Canon.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G1 is a 6-megapixel Cyber-shot and it can use 802.11b and g networks to connect to devices that support these standards.

Phil Lubell, director of marketing for digital cameras at Sony Electronics spoke about this new product launch: “This is a step toward realizing a platform for networked photo communication. We will continue to explore the possibilities for networked digital imaging as broadband Internet becomes more pervasive in American homes.”

The camera comes loaded with a 3.5-inch LCD screen and 2GB of internal memory. It has support for Sony’s Memory Stick Duo or Pro Duo cards and can handle 8GB of external memory.

Sony would ship this camera in April this year for a suggestive retail price of USD 600.
