YouTube is back online in Turkey

Ahter Kutadgu, head of corporate communications for Turk Telekom has said in a statement that the ban on the Google owned video sharing web service YouTube has now been lifted.

The ban lasted for two days. A court ruling had banned the service in the country due to some online posted videos which allegedly insulted the founder of modern Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

Kutadgu said in a statement that his company had been notified of a court decision to lift the ban. He added: “As soon as the court decision lifting the ban reached us, we immediately opened YouTube.”

The court ruling had said that the ban would be removed as soon as they were satisfied that the insulting videos were removed from the YouTube.com service.
