Nokia expects India to become their second largest market soon
World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has said in a statement that they expect the Indian market to become their second largest sales market by 2010.
The company added that India can achieve this milestone even before that looking at the way market is growing here.
India currently is the third largest market for Nokia in terms of volumes. The company had shipped 25 million handsets as of December 2006 from its factory near Chennai in southern India. 80% of these mobile phones were delivered in the domestic market.
The company also has a worker base of 3,800 people at the facility against a projected 2,000. They are also working on expanding the floor space to 53,000 sq meters from 30,000 sq meters.
