EU aims to have Mobile TV in the region before Euro 2008

European Union officials have said that they aim to have mobile TV services available in the region before the starting of the Euro 2008 championship.

European telecom ministers met at the CeBIT trade fair and said that they are working hard on making sure that they would meet the demand for broadcasts on handheld devices expected among fans during Euro 2008.

The championship would be hosted jointly by Austria and Switzerland. Market analysts have claimed that the mobile TV market could win 100 million subscribers throughout Europe by 2010.

German Economy Minister Michael Glos said in a statement: “This dynamic trend offers a unique opportunity for the European ICT (information and communication technology) sector. Owing to its innovative potential, it will make a sustained contribution for more growth and employment.”
