NASA believes China could conquer the moon before them this time
US Space Agency NASA has plans to put the man back on moon. However, they are faced with depleting financial sources and they are still working on their plans to replace the aging Space Shuttle fleet.
NASA Administrator Michael Griffin has now said in a statement that the Chinese space program is progressing at such an impressive pace that they might launch explorers on the moon before Americans make a lunar return.
He was speaking at the budget hearing before the House Science and Technology Committee.
Griffin has been to China and has seen their space installations. He also met with leading scientists and engineers at the Chinese Space program. He said on his experience: “I cannot speculate and won’t speculate on what China’s intensions are. I just don’t know that. As a matter of technical capability and political will, if the Chinese choose to do so, they can mount a lunar mission within a reasonable number of years, say a decade.”

I hope the chinese do beat NASA to the Moon if for nothing more than to just prove a point that NASA waste so much money only to gain very little results. This story was put out by them as to influence the public and ultimately the Government that they need more cash! they do this sort of thing every year or two. If the ESA had there funding we would have a base on mars by now. Oh yeah and one more thing how many times have you heard NASA say ” there may be life on mars ” they know there is life on mars they just want more cash to continue there missions. if i was an american tax payer i would be really pissed with NASA

funny now nasa as to land on the moon for real(not only in a hollywood clip) to cover there asses.
iam glad i dont pay my tax in oversee.

I think that if the Chinese are going to beat the US back to the moon we should just blow the whole thing up. What value does the moon have anyway? Just think of the meteor shower that would provide, beats the boring old moon any time.

Even if such a thing were possible by us, the moon is involved with tides just for starters and I strongly suspect there would be a lot of problems (I get that you’re not serious).

this time? how about china will beat nasa to the moon–

the moon keeps earth stable. And makes tides. But nasa and esa are a waste of money…

You guys need to get lives. The ravings in the above posts are nothing short of childish.
Here are the facts, gentlemen. NASA has been an absolute gold mine of technological research since its inception in the late 1950s. The spin-offs of their technology has changed the world forever, and for the better. From GPS to cell phones, from pharmaceuticals to space physiology, from materials research to semiconductors research, from aeronautics to astronautics, from rocket propellants to rocket engines, from planetary exploration to the Hubble Space Telescope, and need I forget the exploration of our dear old Moon, NASA has led the way every time with incredible advances only dreamt about in other countries. Our investment in NASA has paid off a hundred times over. Think about that the next time you make a cell phone call, plug an address into your GPS, or watch satellite weather images on the news. If you really want to guarantee that we return to the Moon before the Chinese, convince our leaders to STOP THE WAR IN IRAQ!! Then we’ll have lots of money to spend on NASA.

Ha NASA a waste of money… O how people take technology for granted. balnotbias hits absolutely right. Blowing the moon up would be cool, except without the moons gravity the earth would tilt so much the northpole is where the equator is now. Its bad enough it moves a 1/4 an inch away every year. That US flag and those mirrors really aren’t on the moon either right…

how can people not understand the importance of space exploration! We need to go beyond earth to have improvidence on science and technology. And our future actually lies in space
