Google investigating mobile phone development concepts

Market sources have been claiming since sometime that the search engine giant Google is internally developing its own mobile phone.

The latest news is that a Google representative has acknowledged the fact that the company is indeed “investigating” such a project.

Market sources hinted towards a possible device which would be low cost but would be able to connect to the internet. It is rumored to feature a color, wide-screen design.

Media companies have further claimed that the company has been showcasing such a design to potential mobile phone manufacturing partners in Asia.

Google spokeswoman Erin Fors said in a statement on these rumors: “Mobile is an important area for Google. We remain focused on creating applications and establishing and growing partnerships with industry leaders to develop innovative services for users worldwide. However, we have nothing further to announce.”

Richard Windsor, a phone analyst with brokerage Nomura in London added: “Google has come out of the closet at the CeBIT trade fair admitting that it is working on a mobile phone of its own. This is not going to be a high-end device but a mass market device aimed at bringing Google to users who don’t have a PC.”
