LG Electronics aims to charge USD 60 for Digital TV Converters

South Korean tech giant LG Electronics has said that they are planning to offer devices that would help customers to make the analog-to-digital switch on their televisions for just around USD 60.

They are one of the three companies to have announced plans to sell such convertors in the US market. These convertors have been designed to help older generation television sets to continue running cable television feed when they upgrade to digital transmission in 2009.

John Taylor, LG’s vice president of U.S. government relations said in a statement on their plans: “We plan to have the boxes available in early 2008.”

The US government itself has said that they plan to provide $40 discount coupons to consumers to help buy the converter boxes.

John Godfrey, Samsung Electronics’ vice president of government and public affairs spoke about their plans to offer such a device: “It’s hard to place new products during the holiday season. It either has to go on the shelves by September or after January first.”
