Qualcomm showcases UMB (Ultra Mobile Broadband) chips
Mobile technology developer Qualcomm has unveiled their latest next generation of CDMA chips in the form of UMB (Ultra Mobile Broadband).
These chips are for both the cellular base stations and mobile devices.
This format is also known as the EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized) Revision C and the company hopes that it would be approved by the 3GPP2 (Third Generation Partnership Project 2) in the first half of this year.
Qualcomm further said that these new chips would support speeds as high as 40Mbps downstream and 10Mbps upstream.
Qualcomm Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Jha showcased the two chips CSM (Cell Site Modem) 8900 and MDM (Mobile Data Modem) 8900 chips.
The company added that they hope to get this technology implemented in mobile networks around the world starting 2009.
