AMD showcases their Imageon graphics chipsets for cell phones
Microprocessor Company AMD is showcasing their Imageon graphics chipsets for cell phones at the ongoing CTIA 2007.
The company said that the idea behind these processors is to provide similar capabilities added by a graphic processor to a personal computer.
Using these chips, the mobile devices can stop relying on the main processor for the graphics acceleration. This would enable them to provide significantly more detailed graphics and faster frame rates.
The company also showcased their gaming-oriented Imageon 238X chip. To display its power AMD showcased a prototype handset running code from an actual Xbox game, Sudeki.
Another processor Imageon 2X9X chip was used to display decoding of a H.264 signal. Using this chip, the company displayed standard-definition-DVD quality video on an external 37-inch LCD panel.
The company also showcased their Imageon TV system capable of receiving and decoding DVB-H broadcast television signals on mobile devices.
