Samsung showcases a 1.8” 64 GB flash hard drive
South Korean tech giant Samsung has displayed a 1.8” 64 GB flash hard drive. This means that soon we can have flash hard drives big enough to replace traditional hard disks in notebook computers.
These hard disks are likely to be first shipped online to original equipment manufacturers. We expect to see some notebook products utilizing these new flash hard disks in the coming months.
The news is exciting considering the capacities of solid state hard drives are increasing while the prices are falling down. It should not take long before they become affordable for most of us.
The company further announced that are targeting a Q2 release of 1.8” and 2.5” form factor SSDs. These could form the backbone of the next generations of ultra mobile personal computers.
SanDisk is another company in this market and they just recently showcased their 32 GB model.
