ICANN rejects the XXX domain for adult sites
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has announced that they have rejected plans to establish a new “.XXX” domain for adult themed websites.
The body said that creation of such domains would not solve the basic issue of how to protect the kids from accessing the online porn.
The organization added that they would also be obligated “to acquire a responsibility related to content and conduct.”
ICANN further said: “This decision was the result of very careful scrutiny and consideration of all the arguments. That consideration has led a majority of the Board to believe that the proposal should be rejected.”
The proposal to create XXX domain names was first put forward by senators Mark Pryor and Max Baucus who had asked the US Department of Commerce to restrict sexually charged content from regular domain names like .com, .net.
