Seagate showcases 7,200 RPM 160GB laptop hard drive

Storage industry giant Seagate has unveiled their latest hard disk product for the notebooks and laptops. The company displayed their new Momentus drive which they claim is the first 7,200-rpm 160GB laptop hard drive in the world.

This drive uses the perpendicular recording technology to store more data in limited space available in hard disks present in the portable computers.

The company added that they would also make available drives in 80GB, 100GB and 120GB capacities.

Seagate added that these drives combine a fast Serial ATA 3Gbit/sec interface with 7,200-rpm spin speed. This enables them to provide the fastest performance ever from such kind of hard drives.

Michael Wingert, Seagate’s executive vice president and general manager spoke on these new products: “The growing number of computer users turning to laptops as their primary computers want every inch of the capacity, performance and durability they enjoy in their desktops.”

The company is also claiming that these new drives are virtually inaudible when in use.
