Quanta Computer to launch a low cost laptop in developed markets

Quanta Computer is the world’s largest contract laptop manufacturer. The company is also the maker of the much in news OLPC project’s USD 100 laptop.

The company has now revealed that they are planning to introduce ultra-low-cost computers which can be sold in developed markets for prices as low as USD 200.

The laptops developed for the One Laptop Per Child project are specially made for the kids living in developing nations to help them expand their knowledge.

Michael Wang, Quanta’s president said in a statement that they could use the same concepts to develop commercially viable machines for the developed markets as well.

He said: “We will definitely at the right time launch a commercialized product similar to the OLPC.”

Quanta further said that they have now established a new division for “emerging PCs” as they aim to create and dominate the new market for low-cost machines.
