EMI Group music now DRM free on Apple iTunes

As expected EMI Group and Apple Inc have announced that they are now going to offer the EMI Group’s music on the Apple iTunes without any kind of digital rights restriction.

EMI held a press conference with the Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs and the company said in its release: “The new higher quality DRM-free music will complement EMI’s existing range of standard DRM-protected downloads already available.”

This is big news for the music industry as for the first time in the history of digital music; a major music company would be selling their music without any DRM on a popular online store.

This is likely to further boost the Apple iTunes service as owners of any digital music player would be able to purchase and download songs (from the EMI’s catalogue at least for now) for listening on their MP3 player.

Awesome news for the consumer. Hopefully, other music industry giants would follow.
