Yahoo! testing a new searching concept named Yahoo Alpha

Search engine company Yahoo! has been quietly testing a new searching service they are calling Yahoo Alpha. The service is publicly accessible and is hosted on their Australian domain.

Users can customize this search engine service by adding, removing and rearranging components. The default layout enables the user to display results from three Yahoo search engines: the Flickr photo service, the Answers question-and-answer service and Yahoo News in addition to the regular Yahoo! Search.

They are also providing search services in the default layout from third party services including Google’s YouTube and Wikipedia.

Users also have the option to check out related relevant ads from the Yahoo’s online ad network. They can log into the Yahoo! service and further customize the service by changing the layout and adding other search engine services.

A company spokesperson had this to say about Yahoo! Alpha: “This is a very early prototype and we are always testing new products and services to get feedback from our users on improving the user experience.”
