Intel due to launch their new UMPC platform called “McCaslin”
Microprocessor industry giant Intel is rumored to be preparing to launch their new UMPC platform called “McCaslin”.
This new platform would use their “Stealey” microprocessor running at 600MHz or 800MHz. these processors would be capable of running the recently launched Microsoft Windows Vista OS.
The company has officially not said anything but has admitted that it was working in that area. Intel spokeswoman Connie Brown added in a statement: “We will have an announcement this month on the ‘rumored’ product, [but] until then I won’t comment on speculation and rumors.”
Market analysts believe that the market is still not mature enough and it would take some time before it becomes profitable for the companies launching products in the segment.
Samir Bhavnani, research director with Current Analysis spoke about the UMPC technology: “The feedback on devices has ranged from slightly negative to slightly positive, but nobody has judged these devices to be totally awesome.”
