TAM airline company to enter Second Life
Brazilian airline company TAM has announced that they would soon become the first airline company to promote itself in the Second Life online virtual world.
TAM aims to provide the citizens of the Second Life cyberspace flights that correspond to its real-world international service.
TAM added in a statement that they would allow the members of the Second Life to take virtual TAM flights to Second Life islands called Milan, Paris, New York and England.
A company spokesperson had more details: “Of course, avatars can fly there on their own, or we can take them there, free of charge, for which they get frequent flier points and gifts like a virtual aircraft or clothes. It’s more of an institutional marketing tool, for people to learn about the airline’s destinations, and for us to be present in this new online fever”
They would be setting up their base at the Second Life’s Berrini Island and the visitors would be greeted by a virtual pilot and a flight attendant.

Bah humbug – fluff and nonsense I say! LOL
Seriously – there has been a functioning airport in SL for a very long time now – it’s called Abbots Aerodrome and its run by Cubey Terra and Apotheus Silverman. They have had flights going over the mainland of Second Life for a couple years now – and they’re quite fun to fly on. TAM isn’t doing anything new…. its been done before… and claiming they are the first in Second Life to do so is just so much Hype…. Cubey was there first! :)

Second Life is an incredible platform for individuals and businesses to do every manner of thing, good and bad, fantastic and real.
As voice chat enters (next month, and will be optional) and as an increasingly photo-realistic virtual world emerges, the “metaverse” platform will become more immersive and amazing.
