BD-UP5000: Samsung to launch a player compatible with both Blu-Ray and HD DVD
South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced that they would soon launch a new media player which would support both Blu-Ray and HD DVD formats.
This new player would be the Samsung BD-UP5000 and they plan to make it available in the US market before the end of the year.
After launching it in the US market, Samsung aims to bring it in Europe in the next couple of months. The company also could not reveal anything on the expected price of the player.
With this Samsung joins LG in announcing plans to support both the next generation storage formats with a single player. LG has already launched their combo player in the US market.
Sony’s Blu-Ray technology is competing with Toshiba’s HD DVD format to become the standard which would take over from DVD.
