Dell no longer selling the Axim handhelds
World’s second largest PC manufacturer Dell has already stopped selling their own range of digital music players. Now, they are cancelling the not so popular Axim line of handhelds.
The company added that they currently have no plans to replace this range with a new one. Dell spokeswoman Anne Camden spoke on this decision: “The Axim X51 family is no longer being offered, and we have no plans for a follow-on product at this time.”
Interestingly, like with the MP3 players, Dell does sell PDAs from other manufacturers on their website.
Dell launched the first Axim Pocket PC in 2002. They did well by offering a cheaper product as the consumer at that time was used to paying big bucks for devices featuring similar capabilities.
The most recent model was the X51 which was launched 2 years ago. The market is now full of strong potent competitors. RIM, Palm and now Apple are launching products which would have made it tough for Dell to sell more of their own PDAs.
