Samsung to not compete with Nokia’s cheapest mobile phones
South Korean tech giant Samsung has admitted that they are not in a position strong enough to take on the market leader Nokia with ultra low cost mobile phone products.
The company now plans to remain very selective in choosing new markets for its mobile phones. Samsung Chief Executive Yun Jong-yong said in a statement: “Nokia is very strong as a maker of cheap phones. We cannot compete against it in those. That’s why we are very choosy.”
He added that Samsung at its position in the market can only pick up the segments of the market where they believe they can succeed with their products.
The company further states that launching ultra cheap mobile phones would not suit their image in the market. However, looking at the emerging mobile markets in the world like India and china, they just cannot ignore the potential of this segment.
As a result, Samsung now plans to launch products which are in high low-end range. They call these phones the “luxury versions” of cheap phones. Apart from Nokia, Motorola also has a strong presence in the cheaper mobile phone segment.
